DoorKing Welding & Fabrication: The Spring Owner’s Guide

We stock and install DoorKing-compatible welding and fabrication parts for residential and light-commercial gates in Spring, with most bracket and hinge repairs running $275-$680 installed, depending on the part and how much fabrication the original mount needs. Same-day service is available when the part is on our truck, which covers most common DoorKing swing-gate and slide-gate hardware. The typical call starts the same way: a gate that worked fine for years suddenly sags an inch, scrapes the driveway, or binds against the post because a weld let go or a fabricated bracket cracked clean through.

Adrian Vance has been repairing DoorKing gates in Spring since 2014, and the welding failures we see follow a pattern. Houston humidity works on the weld points first, especially where powder coating was scratched during the original install. We’ll get into exactly what fails and what it costs below.

Which DoorKing Models This Applies To

This page covers the fabricated steel and welded hardware on DoorKing swing-gate operators (6002, 6003, 6100 series), slide-gate operators (9050, 9100, 9150 series), and the gate frames, hinges, and bracket assemblies that carry them. DoorKing doesn’t sell a single part called a “welding and fabrication kit” – the welds live in the hinge brackets, the operator mounting plates, the fork brackets on slide gates, and the arm assemblies where the motor connects to the gate leaf. That’s what we’re matching.

The compatibility gotcha most Spring owners hit: DoorKing hinge brackets are drilled for specific gate frame widths and post setbacks, and a bracket from a 6002 won’t always land clean on a 6100 without rework. We measure the bracket bolt pattern and the gate leaf weight before ordering or fabricating, because a 14-foot iron gate out in Gleannloch Farms puts very different stress on a weld than a 6-foot tube-steel gate in a townhome court. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with DoorKing, so we match OEM parts when the original bracket is structurally sound, and fabricate a heavier-gauge replacement when the original design is what failed the first time.

Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • The gate sags at the hinge side and drags the drive wheels. A cracked weld on the lower hinge bracket lets the leaf drop. The operator keeps pushing, but the gate now has to lift its own weight over the concrete. That’s what wore out the weld in the first place.
  • The gate post moves when the gate stops. Loose fabricated post brackets or a broken weld at the post plate let the whole assembly rock. The motor works harder, and the limit switch settings drift because the physical stops aren’t where they were when we set them.
  • A single pop or crack when the gate reverses direction. That’s a weld that has already failed on one side of a bracket. The remaining hinge point is carrying double the designed load, and it’s a matter of weeks before the second side goes.
  • The operator arm bracket shows fresh rust streaks or flaking powder coat. On DoorKing swing arms, the fabricated bracket where the arm bolts to the gate is the most common point for moisture to sit. Once the coating fails, the weld underneath starts corroding from the outside in.
  • The gate opens a few inches, then stops or reverses. This is the symptom that confuses people. The motor is fine. A broken weld or bent fabricated bracket has changed the gate’s geometry so the limit switch reads the travel as complete far too early.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Spring, most DoorKing weld and fabrication repairs run between $275 and $680 installed. The low end covers a single hinge bracket re-weld or a fabricated operator-arm bracket on a standard residential swing gate. The high end covers a full hinge set on a heavy iron gate, including grinding out the old welds, fabricating new bracket plates, and re-hanging the leaf. Slide-gate fork brackets and fabricated guide roller mounts fall in the middle, usually $350 to $550, depending on whether we’re reinforcing the existing bracket or cutting and welding a new one.

Every price is written down and handed to you before any work starts, under Haven Standard Clause 1. No verbal number, no surprise at the end. The labor includes the weld, the prep, and the finish work to match the existing gate as closely as practical. Most weld repairs carry our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the weld fails within a year, we re-do it for free. Parts from DoorKing carry their manufacturer warranty; fabricated parts carry our workmanship warranty.

Two things you can safely check yourself: whether the hinge bolts are loose (tighten them with a socket and re-test), and whether you can see a visible crack line at the weld point. If the bolt is loose, you might have just saved yourself a service call. If you see the crack, stop opening the gate manually and leave it in whatever position it’s in.

Here’s the honest line: welding a gate bracket that carries a few hundred pounds of moving steel is not a weekend job. The weld has to hold through thousands of open-close cycles, Houston humidity, and the twisting force of a motor that doesn’t care if the bracket is tired. A bad weld on a gate that weighs 400 pounds and moves under power is a safety risk to whoever is standing near it when it lets go. If the bracket is cracked, call us at (346) 488-1637 and we’ll have a technician out with the truck stock to match it.
